The Mendoza Line - 30 Year Low

This album starts out beautifully, if only Shannon McArdle had sung all eight songs. “Since I Came” has a sad, slow feeling like Mojave 3’s “Love Songs on the Radio,” but with deeper tones and themes. “31 Candles” absolutely rollicks across my eardrums, providing the dirtiest use of “cake” in song. After the continued excellence of the first three songs, I found the overly Dylan-esque vocals of “I Lost My Taste” and “Love on Parade” completely jarring. And disappointing. “30 Year Low” lives up to the borrowed Dylan stylings with stand-out wordplay and anchors the last three songs on the disc.
