Yglesias on a deeper desire from the electorate:
And, yes, we’ll also see a lot of instances of conservative Republicans being beaten by relatively moderate Democrats. But we’ll also see some instances of Republicans being beaten by strong progressives. And we’re going to see few-to-no instances of progressive Democrats losing. Compared to 1992 where Democrats actually lost ground in the House and treaded water in the Senate, it’ll be a clear indication on all three levels of government for a shift in a more progressive direction.
Dear goodness, I hope there’s a shift towards progressiveness. I know I live in some sort of fantasy-land with my thoughts on how government ought to work, what with my desire for a progressive social policy funded by progressive style taxes and a much smaller military (and I know my vague notions of what the actual differences in powers for state/local vs federal government are just not possible, so I won’t bother adding them to the mix), but I’d really like living in a country where Teh Evil Specters of Teh Gay Marriage and Universal Health Care are neither evil nor specters looming in our airspace. They really ought to be things we take for granted as hallmarks of a modern nation.
And this Focus on the Family scare tactic is equally illogical and reprehensible. There are too few words, and it makes me drink beer
